A Simple Simulation
Note: in order to run the simulation referred to in this slide, go here, to the Java Applet version. You will be directed to download the latest version of the Java plug-in.
Consider an organization of agents to your left. At every time step, each agent learns a fixed amount of information, and shares a certain proportion of that new information with all of her partners - agents she is connected to. If you run the simulation forward by pressing "Go", the Total Knowledge of the organization accumulates linearly, and the agents' circles serve to show the proportion of that knowledge each of them possesses. Note that well-connected agents tend to get larger, for they receive shared information from several partners.
